COVID-19 Prevention Measures in the Workplace - Interim Recommendations
These measures apply when community transmission is confirmed by Dubai public health authorities. According to current knowledge, it is known that the disease can be transmitted by asymptomatic people who are carriers of the disease. Therefore, preventive measures are recommended at all times.
Any resumption of non-essential moving services should be done so that the transmission of COVID-19 is controlled. In order to avoid a resumption of transmission, several conditions described here must be observed.
Government Recommended Measurements for Moving and other Workplaces
The preventive measures recommended by the government for the general population and the basic recommendations for all workplaces apply, unless more restrictive measures are specified.
Pregnant or Breastfeeding Movers
Particular attention should be paid to pregnant workers and workers with special health conditions. Refer to the following recommendations:
Movers and Packers with Severe Chronic Illnesses
These recommendations aim to protect movers and packers who must enter homes, as well as customers, their relative and the general population by reducing the risk of the virus spreading. Preventive measures must be applied for all moves.
The risk of transmission through surfaces and objects exists, but in the global context it is currently considered low. In the context of a move, the main risk for movers is to have close contact within two meters.
Arrangement of Working Mode and Time
In order to protect the health of our moving staff and those who frequent the workplace are asked to respect isolation instructions (return from travel, COVID-19 cases, case contacts) and take into account other constraints (voluntary school attendance, limited public transport, etc.):
Allow Flexible Hours
Review the tasks in order to facilitate their accomplishment alone, in a small team or according to the new criteria of distancing.
Triage of Symptomatic Workers
Advise workers not to report to work if they have symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 (see box below). A symptom questionnaire can be taken before the start of each shift for all workers.
Systematic temperature measurement before starting work is not recommended. If taken, this measure should be used with caution and with full knowledge of the detection limits for COVID-19 cases, for the following reasons, among others:
Not All Cases of COVID-19 Present with a Fever
The fever fluctuates greatly during the day, risk of false negatives:
- Taking medicines for fever (eg: acetaminophen; ibuprofen) or consuming cold or hot drinks may affect the results;
- Some temperature measuring devices can have a significant margin of error, such as contactless devices.
- In addition, it is necessary to train and adequately protect (gloves, procedure mask and eye protection) the personnel who take the temperature.
- It is also necessary to advise the clientele not to access the spaces of the workplace if there are symptoms.
If a worker or Customer Begins to Experience Symptoms in the Workplace
Have him wear a procedural mask if available and isolate him in a room provided for this purpose;
The symptomatic person should consult the Self-care guide (the link is external) for more details. Leave a copy of the paper guide in the isolation room.
Workers who have been in contact with the symptomatic person should self-monitor their symptoms Call Ministry of Health & Prevention on 800-11111, Department of Health – Dubai Health Authority on call 800-342 and Abu Dhabi on 800-1717 instructions.
